Accessibility Statement and Policy for Rowden Abbey


At Rowden Abbey, we are committed to a policy of equal opportunities for all, addressing disability in the broadest sense. Our accessibility statement is part of a comprehensive policy that reflects this commitment. We strive to provide an inclusive environment and to make reasonable adjustments wherever possible to accommodate the needs of all our guests.


Accessibility at Rowden Abbey


Rowden Abbey is situated in a beautiful historic property built in 1881, which is a listed building. Due to the nature of the building, some of our public areas and guest rooms are not fully accessible to all guests. While we endeavor to make adjustments to enhance accessibility, please note the following:


No Lift Access: The house does not have a lift, and all bedrooms are located on the first and second floors. However, we do have a wide and shallow staircase that is suitable for guests with some mobility issues.


Entry Access:  Access into the Abbey requires navigating two small steps. The doorways are wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs, though wheelchair access is tight in certain areas.


Ground Floor Facilities: There are two WCs on the ground floor. Although wheelchair access to these WCs is limited, our Estate staff are available to offer any assistance required.


Assistance: While we do not offer room service, our staff are on 24/7 call and ready to assist in any emergency.


Alternative Accessible Accommodation

For guests needing wheelchair-accessible accommodation, we are pleased to offer Acorn Cottage, located just 2 miles away in Edwyn Ralph Village. This self-contained ground-floor apartment features:


  • Wheelchair access from the parking area.
  • A large bedroom with an adjustable mobility bed and ensuite wet room.
  • Stunning garden views from the spacious sitting room and kitchenette.
